Born in Rome GA, I consider
myself a
Tennessean. After growing up in Greeneville, I attended ETSU and UT and lived for many years in Knoxville.
I
now reside in Tellico Village. I am mostly self-taught and have been
painting for over 50 years. I have limited formal training under Dixie Snapp,
Greeneville Tennessee's most famous artist, now deceased.
I focus primarily
on oil paintings producing a variety of paintings from photographs
from TN and from places visited, domestic and foreign. Though an Oak
Ridge engineer by trade for 30 years, my interest in art has existed since an early age.
Encouraged by my mother, Dot Clinard, to begin pencil drawings and oils I was inspired and
taught by Dixie Snapp starting at the age of thirteen. Later at the
University of TN Charles Kermit Ewing taught both Lil and me our art
appreciation and history.
